What is a Safety Inspection?
When you bring your vehicle into Discount Tire & Automotive for a safety inspection, our technicians look at many things to ensure that your vehicle is safe on the road. Some of the things they will look at include: horn and warning devices, speedometer, braking system, lighting and electrical system, windshield wipers and defroster, the body, the tires and wheels, etc. If any component is broken or not working properly, it will need to be fixed before it is passed.
When Do I Need To Get a Safety Inspection?
Making sure that your vehicle is safe while on the road is something that is very important. The Utah Department of Transportation has stated when vehicles are required to be inspected. When the model year of your vehicle reaches four, eight and ten years old, it is required to get inspected for safety. Any vehicle model that ten years old and older must get a safety inspection and pass every year. Below is a chart that illustrates if your vehicle will need a safety inspection this year.

When you come in for your inspection, you must bring your current registration and come no more than two months prior to the renewal of your registration. If your vehicle requires any sort of repair work in order to pass inspection, it can be done by anyone. Additionally, if is repaired or fixed within 15 days of the initial inspection, Discount Tire & Automotive will not charge you to recheck your vehicle. There are different rules here in Cache County concerning emissions. Information on Salt Lake, Weber, Davis, and Utah Counties registration requirements that can be found here. The following are the emission requirements in Cache County: vehicles with model years six years and greater that have even-numbered model years are required to get an emission test performed in even-numbered years. Similarly, vehicles that have odd-numbered model years are required to get an emission test performed in odd-numbered years. Also, vehicles with model year 1968 and older do not require emission tests.

As with safety inspections, an emission inspection may be made no more than two months prior to the renewal of the registration. You must submit the emission certificate when you go to renew your registration.
